6 Days Left as a Species. Attack on Titan “Before the Fall” Launches on the 26th

With the popularity of Titan, I guess a spin-off was inevitable. Attack on Titan “Before the Fall” is a sub story written by Ryo Suzukaze, a Japanese novelist credited as the concept writer of the first Demonbane as well as a few other books like in the Idolmaster series and the .hack series, and will be illustrated by THORES Shibamoto, the character designer from Trinity Blood. I found a few Pixiv pictures tagged as his, and he seems to be the type into overly elaborate fancy clothing.

Based on it’s title, this looks like it’s trying to be a prequel. That could be useful since there’s so many questions about the origins of things in the Titan world, but it’s also not being written by Isayama, so it could end up with us getting, “Well, that seems like a reasonable explanation,” and then Isayama going, “Nooope,” in some later issue. I think the safe bet, though, is to not try reading this is you’re not familiar with the manga. Probably going to be using information from that to form the story base for at least some of this. We still don’t know where the anime is going to end, so I’d read the manga before reading this even though it’ll probably be translated after the anime is over.

And So Was the End of Humanity – Attack on Titan

I take it you’ve probably seen this by now. It has hundreds of thousands of views at time of writing, and the first trailer made has millions. This was the second trailer released for Shingeki no Kyojin AKA Advance of the Giants but officially translated for the new anime as Attack on Titan. It’s being done by Wit Studio and Production I.G. It is gorgeous looking in that trailer and you can take that to be full preview of the show.

Oh, did I say “gorgeous?” I meant “terrifying.” I don’t scare easily. Most horror just flows past me with me wondering why people are scared of or even unnerved by quote “nightmare fuel” moments or designs. But that grinning face and the way that that specific titan, and probably all titans by extension, stopped to dig a person out of rubble to just to eat them gives me a moments pause.

He’s so happy to be eating you

Shingeki no Kyojin is a manga currently running in Bessatsu Shonen Magazine and published by Kodansha both in Japan and in their USA magazine written by manga first timer Hajime Isayama. 107 years ago, for whatever reason, titans, giant monsters that look much like humans, appeared and started eating all the humans. The few remaining people managed to group together into a walled off city that keeps the titans out. We follow the story of a young boy named Eren Jaeger, who believes that humanity essentially lives in a glorified cage and yearns to break from the hold titans have on humanity to reclaim the outside world, who lives in this city as the titans finally break in and start destroying everything and eating everyone. It is supposed to be extremely well written with well done characters and genuinely creepy monster design. I’ve never read it and only heard about it when this trailer got posted somewhere a little while ago. The plot synopsis is from a cursory glance around the internet and what I got out of the first episode.

What initially drew me this show is how attractive the animation is. The drawing quality is high, the motion during action sequences is really solid, and the CG, while I’m still not a fan, has good textures and is not too prevalent and is not used for the titans, at least not in a way I noticed or felt was significant. If this was show with giant humanoid robots made today, you’d never see the end of the CG titans. Production I.G blew the intro episode out of the water, and I can only hope that it stays this way.

I want to know how this guy got away only losing an eye

I’ll be keeping up with this show. These images come from Yaraon, the same place I always got teaser images for JoJo’s. I don’t know if I’ll keep up with the show in the same way with posting the teaser shots here, partially because I don’t know anything about this show in advance like with JoJo’s and partially because the subs for this episode were out almost immediately by the time I saw these pictures. Keep it in mind, though. We may be seeing more horrible giant maws in our future.
