You Guys Did Good Finding an Entire Colored Chapter

Posted in Fanworks, JoJo's Year, Text Articles with tags , , , , , , , , , on 2013/11/10 by OnePixelJumpMan

It’s interesting to see this of all things in color. When this is just Araki’s pen and pencil scratches, it looks so loose as though he banged it out in a few minutes with his non-dominant hand, though that’s not a bad thing. In color, it somewhat looks like that, but far more solid.

This comes from Vorked having finished off the commission for a color “Shigechi’s Harvest 1” chapter. It’s now a full color chapter just as good as before. This time, he went a little outside the ASB colors and made Fatty’s spikes more obviously blonde. I kinda like the idea, but I don’t know if I like it better or not than him just having a spiky skull. It was the first time I ever noticed that he has a scythe design sewn into his sleeve, so it’s good either way.

You can see pages 1-10 here, pages 11-15 here, and pages 16-20 here. That last post comes with an invitation to request other coloring projects, so consider it if there’s something you’d like to see get this treatment.

COLOR INK. FOUND IT. HEE HEE HEE

Really nice coloring, isn’t it? When I saw this, my first thoughts were, “Wow. I didn’t know they were even doing a special color edition of Part 4. Must be part of Shonen Jump Remix or something.” It’s fair to think that but totally wrong. This is actually a fan work done by Vorked Tumblr, and it’s good. I mean, just look at this:

The colors seem to be using ASB designs as reference, and I like that because I’m used to it at this point. It looks excellent though. Some of the shots look like they were pulled from those Part 4 themed commercials for JoJoveller, and I love how effective the detail is on the smaller parts of color like the “BILLION” on Okuyasu’s arm.

This color set is only done up to the first ten pages with the next ten pages on the way. You can read the rest of the pages on Vorked Tumblr, and please do support this project so it can keep going.

It’s Not About Hairstyles. It’s About Dedication to the Costume.

There was a big post ASB Launch event back on the 1st. The event was held at Yoshimoto Mugendai Hall and was just an excuse to sit back and have some fun with the fandom. There were even stage events including a big, cosplay photo shoot. Someone was nice enough to post those images, and it’s cool to see what costumes are being pulled out. You have your normal main character costumes, but there are some costumes pulled from places I wouldn’t have guessed.

The guy dressed as Pucci? That’s his actual hair. It’s not make-up or an effect. He actually shaved his hair into that shape. The Jotaro guy is dressed up to be with the Part 3 guys, but since they had him around, they pulled him in.

Santana was not expected in that outfit. Or at all. I guess if you were expecting Santana, you’d probably have to expect him in that outfit, but the Joseph there was apparently not ready for the big diaper man and couldn’t not laugh.

This was the first one that caught me by surprise, and it’s the biggest one. The people are posing by part, so that guy in the center has to be an SBR character, but I couldn’t remember him by his outfit. That’s actually someone cosplaying Dr. Ferdinand, user of Scary Monsters. He’s the one responsible for turning Diego into everyone’s favorite Dinosaur Cowboy. Not bad.

So, how do you feel about the new live action Iggy? Boston Terriers actually do have the big ears like that, but it might have been hard and possibly dangerous to train one to eat gum, so this guy’s going the extra mile. I really like the solidarity between the guy who’s Alessi and the guy who’s Death 13? Can’t use your scythe out here? Don’t worry buddy! I’ll let you borrow my murdering axe.

There’s a lot of cool details going on in this picture. The Josuke and Okuyasu reading manga like in the commercials, the Harvest guy holding up a giant 100 yen coin, the Rohan with the Heaven’s Door puppet, the Highway Star guy even putting the checkering tape over his face. This is cool. I think that guy with the fishing pole is supposed to be Toyohiro Kanedaichi, user of Super Fly. I don’t totally recognize him, but getting a radio tower inside the hall would probably be pretty hard, so it’s cool.

Double Narancia Fury! Anyone who cosplays Diavolo gets praise just for making his weird mesh shirt thing. The guy playing one of the Pistols is also fun. I like the glasses he used to make their unique eyes.

I wonder if Josuke is so pissed because he doesn’t et to be the center stage Josuke this time. JoJolion Josuke gets to pose with the Part 4 guys because he’d be by himself otherwise.

Is anyone else uncomfortable with the axe wielding maniac being behind anyone?

Using Harvest Mites or Cat Plants to Salute the Flag is Unpatriotic and Cheating. The Kawajiri, Valentine, and Fatty Famitsu Special!

Posted in JoJo's Year, Text Articles with tags , , , , , , , , , on 2013/08/29 by OnePixelJumpMan

I think I’m going to miss being this busy once ASB news quiets down. Then again, with the pairs of DLC to be announced and long series of matches, gameplay footage, organizing online meetups, and all that, this business will probably last at least another month.

So, we’ve seen the characters in PV, but we never got the big Famitsu special for Kawajiri Kira, Funny Valentine, and Fatty. Wait no more, because it is here. As before, the translation is lovingly done by SoWL on Dustloop. I’ll be quoting that directly while peppering in the character portraits and taunt pictures. I’m actually going to hold off on doing the GHA pictures because we’ve seen them in motion at this point. Usually, we’d be getting these before the PV that showed them, but today is different. Feel free to open up the Famitsu article and follow along with the translation.

Kawajiri Kosaku

Command move: Igniting Impact Bomb
A move that can be used with the Stand turned off. Killer Queen shoots forward a charged air bomb.

Command move: Ignition
After sending a Igniting Impact Bomb, you can activate it at any time by inputting this command. However, be careful not to do it too close and get caught in the blast.

Command move: Trajectory Change
As the name suggests, this move can change the trajectory of an Igniting Impact Bomb.

Command move: Now you’re forcing me to fight!
A move that can be used with the Stand turned off. After dashing forward, the Stand throws out a flurry of punches.

Command move: Contact Bomb
A move that shoots forward an air bullet that explodes on contact with the opponent. Can also be used in Stand mode.

Command move: Primary Bomb
Turns the opponent into the Primary Bomb. Can be triggered with the Ignition move.

Command move: Turn this pebble into a bomb!!
After turning a pebble into a Bomb, Kosaku places it on the ground. Try exploding it just when the opponent tries to approach you.

Special move: I’ll crush you!
A skill that lets you stomp on the downed opponent.

Taunt

Heart Heat Attack: Stray Cat! It’s willing to defend for me!
A counter-move that attacks the enemy with Stray Cat’s air bullet. After blowing them away, they get blown up by a huge explosion!

Great Heat Attack: Bite The Dust
A technique that has been implanted into Hayato Kawajiri. Killer Queen presses the switch inside the opponent’s eye, and at the moment of the explosion, rewinds time. After the timer rewinds, Kawajiri even recovers some health! However, the damage dealt to the opponent stays the same.

Funny Valentine

Effects of D4C – Love Train
– The received damage is decreased, while the invulnerable time of Stylish Move gets longer.
– While you’re in the light, you are invulnerable to all projectiles except for Heart Heat and Great Heat Attacks.
– You can still be hit by projectiles if you’re moving or jumping.
– Some command moves are improved.
– Gyro’s “Ball Breaker” and Johnny’s “Tusk Act 4” ignore these effects.

Command move: It’s a legitimate defense
A simple gunshot move.

Command move: I brought it from the other side
An attack performed by Valentine’s copy from another world.

Command move: If I don’t escape to the other dimension……
A special movement technique that is invulnerable except for the cooldown animation. Valentine hides himself in the flag and lets it float in the air.

Command move: He vanished!!?
A counter-attack that goes behind the opponent’s back and knocks them down. It also works when the opponent attacks you from behind, but does not work on projectiles.

Command move: You really irritated me
The Stand performs a rushing attack.

Command move: I’ll take care of you
Stand performs a chopping attack with great start-up.

Command move: Dojyaaa~n
The Stand wraps the opponent in the flag from midair and deals damage to them.

Special skill: I’ll switch with the “Neighboring” self
In response to receiving damage, even when you’re dying, you can refill your health gauge once per battle by switching with the healthy body from the parallel world. However, your Heart Heat Gauge disappears until the end of the battle, so you can’t use any moves that use it.

Throw: Do not interrupt this country’s peace

Taunt

Heart Heat Attack: He brought more back!
A counter-attack that summons copies from parallel worlds. Two of the copies strike together, attacking the opponent simultaneously!

Great Heat Attack: Dirty Deeds Done Dirty Cheap
The opponent is sandwiched between the ground and the flag, throwing them into a parallel world. As they are thrown into their own copy, they both collapse, receiving major damage.

Shigekiyo Yangu

Shigekiyo Yangu’s Mechanics
– You can put out separate groups of the Stand around yourself
– These groups are consumed by performing command moves
– The amount of groups consumed depends on the button pressed: Weak consumes one group, Medium consumes two, and Strong consumes three
– The more groups you spend on your moves, the stronger you get, but also the longer Harvest will regenerate
It’s necessary to consider the risk and the return of consuming Harvest groups depending on the circumstances.

– Harvest can switch between an offensive formation and a defensive formation
– You can only use command moves when you are in the corresponding formation

Offensive Formation
– A Harvest formation that is focused on offensive techniques
– It has a multi-hit move with great reach that can be used to easily pressure the opponent
– Is poorly fit for defense, since none of the moves are invulnerable

Defensive Formation:
– A Harvest formation that is focused on counter-attacks and special guards
– The attacks do not stay active for too long

Command move: Don’t underestimate Harvest! (Offensive Formation)
Lots of Harvests stampede forward.

Command move: If you try that, I’ll know! (Offensive Formation)

Command move: I’ll beat you up if you move any further! (Offensive Formation)
Harvest climbs the enemy and attacks their neck!

Command move: Don’t get any closer! (Defensive Formation)

Command move: Protect me! (Defensive Formation)
During “Don’t get any closer!”, you can input this command and attack the opponent out of blocking!

Command move: It’s very itchy! (Defensive Formation)

Normal throw: Don’t move!

Taunt

Heart Heat Attack: Now I’m really angry!
Harvest turns into a great wave and rushes forward, dealing many hits.

Great Heat Attack: You want to see strong evidence of it? Hm? Then I’ll show you!
An incredible amount of Harvests surrounds the enemy. Then, each Harvest performs a single hit, slowly beating the opponent to a pulp!

Usually, I’d offer some thoughts on the effects these would have on gameplay, but there’s so much more to talk about. I will say I wouldn’t have thought of Fatty being something like a stance fighter where he changes Harvest tactics to suit his fighting needs. It’ll make him very versatile. Love Train sounds fun. It sounds like a much more useful but less perfect character effect than Bruno’s resurgence at the end of a match. That happens consistently for him, but that’s only a small bit of health. Love Train is more complicated, but way stronger with that it makes you largely invincible save for two characters.

Now to the bonuses. There’s enough that I’m going to give them their own post, but since these appear as I post them, you may have seen the bonuses before you get to this point. Huh.

Now Steal a Character Slot for Me! Fatty Joins the ASB Character List?

Posted in JoJo's Year, Text Articles with tags , , , , , on 2013/08/14 by OnePixelJumpMan

Huh. Fatty, eh? There’s a gag picture over his his face, but that’s Fatty and Harvest, no question. That little blue splash under his foot says “DL Contents and Campaign Mode Part 1 Open to the Public.” I’m not sure if “DL” means “Download,” as though Fatty will be a DLC character. That makes sense. Fatty’s an interesting addition, but not really front row character material, especially since everyone’s still reeling from the lack of Diego. If he isn’t DLC, then this might be set up to smack us with Diego right at the end. If it isn’t that and Fatty’s in but Diego isn’t, I imagine a very unhappy western JoJo fandom.

I have no idea how Yangu Shigekiyo will actually work as a character. I usually default to traps when guessing because lots of characters have abilities that make sense for that, and Fatty’s not too different, I guess. He’ll definitely have the move where Harvest makes you drunk. There can be a move where he makes a bunch of them trip you. The ultra just looks like he has them swarm you. Other than that, I’m not sure at all. Maybe they can have a cool move where he steals from your Heat Gauge.

I’m drawing a blank on this one. That thing on the left is that you can have any of the 8 main characters as the wallpaper on your PS3. I’m not sure what the stuff on the bottom is. Keep your eyes peeled for a better scan and maybe some clarification.

Mini Sandwich Number 1! 2! 3! 5! 6! 7!

Well, the Pistols aren’t supposed to work unless you feed them.

Sentinel Co Ltd. has released a pack of stand themed toothpicks. The stands on them are Sex Pistols, Harvest, Bad Company, Pearl Jam, and Metallica.

Man, I don’t know if I’m into this redecorating Tonio’s been up to

Stupid Mista putting us on a diet! We’ll show him!

The tips of the picks are also based on the stand arrowhead except for the Pistols and Bad Company. Theirs kinda look like bullets, but it may just be that they’re pointed. This is one of the more adorable products I’ve seen out of JoJo, and I include Johnathan Joecat in that estimation. I mean, the idea is adorable. I don’t know if I’d actually want to eat food with little tiny soldiers or angry bullet ghosts in them.

3 doesn’t look like he wants to let you take the sandwich, either.

It may not be that you’re supposed to eat from them anyway. The current price of them is ¥525 ($5.40.) That gets you the 18 figure set, all the Pistols and then three each of the other stands, in the three color variations of blue, lime green, and orange. But! They are also selling a display box for the whopping price of ¥6,000 ($61.65.)

Now, I know that seems like a little much to be putting into toothpicks, but these are coming out in August. Can you resist the urge to beat someone playing Mista and then nonchalantly pick your teeth with one of his defeated stand? I don’t know that you can.

The Actually Pretty Nice AMV of Roha from NicoNico

Posted in Fanworks, JoJo's Year, Videos with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on 2013/01/15 by OnePixelJumpMan

Have you seen that before? I wouldn’t be surprised; it has over 400,000 hits and was made over a year ago. I’m not typically into AMVs because the ones I see are usually sad looking moments from MY ANIMES set to depressing music for teenagers, but this one just oozes style and a lot of effort. I have no idea if the guy who made that, a Nico Video user named Kurohara, knew about it being brought over to YouTube by that guy, but let’s assume he did and the response drove him to make a new one.

And it’s pretty good too. I don’t think it’s a secret that Part 4 is my favorite Part, and this is just a love letter to it like the above was a love letter to Part 3. I really want to stress how good the quality is, too. This looks like an extended commercial for the Part 4 box set or something. The way Kira’s hand moves when he’s introduced by name may look a little silly because it’s just a pulled around object, but considering that this guy would have only been able to work with manga pages, it’s really impressive.

The music from the Part 3 one was “JUVES” by Diggy-Mo’, the lead performer of the J-Rap group SOUL’d OUT. You might remember them from as the guys who did the very excellent ending theme to the Phantom Blood movie “VOODOO KINGDOM.” The music from the Part 4 one is also by Diggy-Mo’, “JUNKOO Soul,” but I haven’t been able to find a clean version of that that isn’t this AMV. That’s helpful, though. We get a pretty nice JoJo’s AMV and a SOUL’d OUT song. I’d call that a nice video. My only regret is that someone beat me to the “I had a boner” line in the comments.
