The JoJo’s Baby Name Book! JoJoveller’s English Name List

Posted in JoJo's Year, Text Articles with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on 2013/10/01 by OnePixelJumpMan

https://i0.wp.com/i.imgur.com/1ozbWUt.pngJoJoveller is more than just a big art collection. It’s almost like the JoJo Field guide to the new and unknown. That’s why there were the stand names for stand’s we’d never gotten before. With names of stands come names of people too, though, as there’s often debate over how to properly bring certain names into English, especially because of the referential nature of the series. Do we use romanized kana spellings, giving us things like Esidisi, or do we go full on with our references, with things like ACDC? I remember getting into that fight while the anime was going.

Well, worry only a little bit anymore because JoJoveller also comes with a guide for the English translations of people’s names. It’s been translated with care by Shizuka Joestar Tumblr, though with some caveats. This list is at times contradictory with source material and sometimes other parts of JoJoveller, Bruno’s name is given as “Bucciarati” but spelled “Buccellati” later on. So, while it is interesting, take them with the understanding of the potential errors.

I’m not going to quote the whole list because it’s tremendous. I’m just going to cherry pick the ones I think are interesting. You can see the full list here. Be wary of spoilers if you haven’t read all the Parts. You should probably only read the lists for the Parts you’ve finished.

Joseph Joestar
Esidisi
Kars
Wamuu
Straizo
Muhammad Avdol
N’Doul
Telence T. Darby

I think which ones I was going to pick were pretty obvious. Past Part 3, save the weirdness with Bruno’s name, most of them are what you’ve come to already know from the translation conventions. I picked the Pillar Men and Straizo because of the arguments that came out with the anime, and I picked Joseph because I remember it used to be that Joseph was spelled “Josef” in Part 2. There was a “changed for cultural meshing” argument for why the F became a PH, and that was the same justification for why Jolyne went from a “Kujo” to a “Cujoh.” At least for some time.

Avdol and Telence are the weirder ones because Engrish. Avdol and Telence are not names, of course. If you look those up, you’ll always get rerouted back to JoJo’s, but Abdul and Terence are names, so that’s kinda awkward. On the other hand, I always thought it was supposed to be N’Doul and was confused when I started hearing N’Dour, so I guess it balances. A bit?

Anyway, give it a look. It’s an interesting read.

JOJOveller Post Preorder Copies Now Available

Posted in JoJo's Year, Text Articles with tags , , , , , , on 2013/06/10 by OnePixelJumpMan

So who was able to get a preorder copy of JOJOveller? Well, for those of you who weren’t, there is now a way you can get your hands on it all the same. Both AmiAmi and CDJapan have made provisional preorders available for the Limited Edition of the collection. The prices vary a little by vendor, AmiAmi has it for ¥20,000 ($200) and CDJapan has it for ¥24,000 ($240), but the editions are first come, first serve. AmiAmi has it set up like they did with ASB where you’re only allowed to order a set amount of copies, this one being three so you have one to give away, one to keep mint, and the other to cuddle with all night long.

It’s a pricey book, but you may not get another chance, so consider missing a meal or two.

“Dude! Okuyasu! You’ve gotta see the new JOJOveller book!” JOJOveller Commercial 1

You probably remember the JoJolion commercials with Josuke, Okuyasu, and Koichi reading Jump comics on the sidewalk? Why not keep going with that. We’ve got the first official JOJOveller commercial from our favorite high school kids. Personally, I love when Echoes Act 3 craters the book. You gonna talk about JOJOveller in Morioh, you better be ready to fight. Throw that Jump on the table, lets go. Such good style.

Edit:

This is the intro that plays when you visit the official JOJOveller site’s front page. I think there it’ll infinitely loop. This is a clean video. When viewing it on the page, it would be cluttered with menu items. I don’t know if the person who uploaded this ripped this themselves or found it, but he did also post a link where you can download the music in the video’s description. Make sure and fJOJOollow the video back to YouTube if you’re interested.

The Final Round. JOJO Royale Stage 9: ARAKI

Posted in JoJo's Year, Videos with tags , , , , , , , , on 2013/03/19 by OnePixelJumpMan

I’ll just let the man speak for himself.

Pretty simple. Just a little guessing game. On top of the final Stage being revealed, they’ve also revealed the Stage 9 Prize, an autographed, comprehensive JoJo Panel, and the JOJO Royale Grand Prizes. There was one already revealed at the beginning: the Steel Ball Run Trophy, but there was a second, mystery prize only revealed now at the start of Stage 9. It’s a free copy of the deluxe edition of JOJOveller.

Good luck to everyone who’s going to the final leg!

Preorders for JOJOveller Now Open!

Posted in JoJo's Year, Text Articles with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on 2013/03/18 by OnePixelJumpMan

We’ve run out the clock. It’s time for JOJOveller. (Sound Warning)

A massive compilation cap to everything about the 25th Anniversary of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. Artwork, documentaries, interviews, the works. It’s all here.

The Artbook

The JOJOveller Artbook focuses mainly on Parts 6 through 8. It contains some stunning artwork in the same vein as the artwork in JOJOmenon. Also, it blows up because Kira got into the production line.

The Stand Book

You know how there were little readouts on the Stands in between chapters that gave a brief overview of a Stand’s ability, powers, and whatnot? This is going to be that, but so much more comprehensive. Power ratings, ability comprehension, various artworks, and all for every single Stand that has appeared since Part 3.

The History Book

The History “Book” is actually a book and video interview with Araki. Go back in time and look at everything JoJo including Araki himself stepping back and looking at his whole 25 year magnum opus where he will apparently be revealing classified JoJo information that we’ve never heard before. Maybe he’ll explain how Gold Experience Requiem works.

The Documentaries

There are two documentaries in this collection. The first one is the JOJOmenon video that was part of an Ultra Jump release a little bit ago. They put up a new, more robust preview video.

The second one is a little sitdown with Araki at his desk walking us through his creative process in “The Making of JoJo.”

The amount of artistic media that he goes through to make his artwork. I never would have guessed he uses airbrushes.

Special

This isn’t as much part of the book itself as the PV I embedded up at the top. The big deal for this page, though, is the bonus images. All these pictures that I’ve been using are on the page, but what they are is the physical JOJOveller book being affected by different stand powers. You can probably guess what most of them are. The site will release all these pictures on a schedule as wallpapers for desktops. Currently, the only available ones are Echoes Act 3 and Cream. They’re all available in two sizes. The next one, the exploding one, will be available on the 26th.

So how do you get it? Reservations for copies are now available through a number of different sites and also a printout order form you presumably mail in to somewhere. I would go through the Amazon page. It’s going for the heavy price of ¥20,000 ($209) and here’s the big part: JOJOmenon will officially ship on September 19th, but preorders are only being accepted until Tuesday May 7th, Japanese Standard Time. If you’re looking to own, you need to move fast.

Edit: There will also be information released alongside Chapter 19 of JoJolion in the most recent Ultra Jump.

25th Anniversary JoJo’s Artbook This April

Posted in JoJo's Year, Text Articles with tags , , , , , , , , , , on 2013/02/20 by OnePixelJumpMan

Cast your memory waaay back to the JoJo’s Year 25 Jump All Star sketch collection. Unfortunately, most of the images are gone now, though I think you can still find Yusuke Murata’s Jotaro if you root around in old posts. What could be better than a large outpouring of professional fanworks as an artbook? Well, official artbooks are also pretty good.

Make sure and give the page long enough to get to the awesome JoJo emblem themed countdown clock. Each numeral is represented by an emblem of the protagonist of that part except for 0 which is a peace sign and 9 which is Kira from Dead Man’s Questions but he’s a skeleton. At time of writing, it currently reads “Joseph, Jolyne, Joseph, Joseph : Johnathan, Johnny, Josuke, Jotaro” or 26 days, 22 hours, 17 minutes, and 43 seconds. Obviously, those last three emblems change pretty quickly. Also, JoJolion Josuke apparently wears shorts, and I must have forgotten about it.

So what’s that all a countdown to? A JoJo’s 25th Anniversary Art Book: JoJoveller. According to that banner from the official JoJo’s site, information on it will come out with the April Issue of Ultra Jump on March 19th, which is 26 days and change from when I’m writing this. You can keep up with the clock for right now at the official site and hopefully some preview art once the book itself is ready to ship.
