Araki and GUCCI Art Exhibit Teaser Images

Posted in JoJo's Year, Text Articles with tags , , , , , , , on 2013/06/27 by OnePixelJumpMan

The Araki-JoJo Twitter along with another one related to Shueisha has released a few pictures from the exhibit in Florence that starts tomorrow. They’re all of the paintings that are being presented, and each one has a theme. The one you can see above there is a Part 5 themed one, which I expect to be particularly popular riding off the setting of Araki and GUCCI’s collaboration. Speaking of, there’s a corner for all the Jolyne in GUCCI fashion pieces, a JoJolion corner, and a Japan aesthetic corner. It’s also amusing that the twitter refers to the Part 5 pieces as “Team Buccelatti.”

This is 28 of the intended 60 pieces that will be displayed at the exhibit. I’m not sure if it’s only going to be paintings or if there will be any displays like what we saw in JOJOmenon. It’s supposed to be Araki’s exhibit rather than a JoJo one, so it will probably only be like this. I wonder how much influence the fashion label venue will end up having.

Hirohiko Araki’s Exhibit Goes to Gucci

Araki is going o be having a new art exhibition in Florence at the end of the month. “Hirohiko Araki an Exclusive Manga Exhibition” will be held in Florence starting June 28th and lasting all the way to July 14th. As you may be able to tell by the art, the event is sponsored by GUCCI and will be held in a historical building that is currently owned by them. On top of that, the exhibition is free to attend. The cost of actually getting to Florence so that you can attend it is different, but the exhibition itself it totally open to the public.

The above is going to be one of the key pieces out of a group of what’s intended to be 60 total works. It’s very fashion oriented and distinctly resembles the work Araki did for “Jolyne, Fly High with GUCCI” and his fashion drawings he did for their clothing line around the same time. The pose of Bruno sort of feeling Jolyne up is kinda weird, but the internet shows me that male and female partner fashion poses are often like that, so what do I know?

The exhibition is relatively soon, so hopefully will get some video or pictures of the works on display to go along with it.

JoJo Posing Gets the Ladies

Ever have trouble asking out that special girl? Think you won’t have anything to talk about? Just have confidence. Start with a “Hello,” then go strong into your best JoJo’s pose and you can’t fail according to ZIP.

ZIP, a Japanese daytime news/talk show on NTV, did an exposé on the general popularity of JoJo’s that leads to massive advertisements on the sides of buildings.

There’s also a fair amount about Araki’s influences as he’s created JoJo through the years.

And the influence and inspiration he’s managed to have on others. Everyone remember our favorite runner from the Hakone Ekiden?

But the majority of it is about the popularity of JoJo’s with Japanese women. There’s a series of street interviews.

White: What do you think when I mention JoJo?
Red: JoJo poses.

White: What manga do you like?
Orange: JoJo!

A few polls about posing. This one was a comparison of favorite poses with the most JoJo’s one winning out by far.

A few demonstrations from fans.

And this look into a 500 person large JoJo’s Posing get together at a stadium.

Not to be outdone, the host of ZIP ends the show on the highest possible note and bookend.

You can check out the rest of the pictures on Yaraon.

“The Unicorn was Here!” Jolyne, Fly High with GUCCI Released to Facebook

Is everyone ready for a fashion adventure?

“Jolyne, Fly High with GUCCI” has been put out on Gucci Japan’s Facebook page ready for us to read. It’s a somewhat literal title taking place in an airport terminal. Jolyne’s mother has just passed and she’s on her way to Tokyo to live with relatives. She’s keeping her spirits up because her mother tailored all her clothing to fit Jolyne before her death and is able to stay with her daughter in some way. Before Jolyne boards the plane, she’s stopped by government agents Bruno Buccellati and Leone Abbacchio who are searching for a missing unicorn to return it to it’s handler Polpo. Yeah, it’s not really a canon short story, but I don’t think many of us expected it to be.

The story is a simple one with a simple conclusion. It’s actually so simple that I’m left wondering if that was the whole story or if this was just a preview for a more robust version released in the digital GUCCI magazine. Regardless, the FB release is interspersed with spreads of the characters, mostly Jolyne, in GUCCI outfits. You’ve seen most of them in the previews released back in December, and it’s cool to see characters like Jolyne and the Passione boys drawn in the modern Araki style. It suits them well. Nicely too, there is a small photo set under the manga that has pictures of the outfits on live models and some of Jolyne’s accessories like her luggage.

Give it a look. It’s a nice little JoJo story.

“Jolyne, Fly High with Gucci” Presented in English

Posted in JoJo's Year, Text Articles with tags , , , , , , , , on 2013/01/07 by OnePixelJumpMan

Who out there is patiently waiting on the JoJo one-shot “Jolyne, Fly High with Gucci” to be picked up and scanlated? Well, interesting thing about that. There may not need to be a scanlation considering what Gucci’s putting on their Facebook.

Sorry if that’s a little hard to read after shrinking to fit. It’s a small blurb about Araki working with Gucci Designer and Creative Director Frida Giannini to create the story and art. The most important part though is the part at the bottom about reading the full manga in SPUR, Gucci Magazines, and Gucci’s Facebook page this month. It looks like Gucci was so happy with Araki’s work it’s going to get an official English translation in their print and digital magazine.

It’s awesome because we haven’t had an official JoJo’s translation since Viz was releasing Stardust Crusaders, and they stopped doing that. So go get it. Find out where you can buy a copy of their magazine and hope that it shows the English market for JoJo’s and isn’t misinterpreted as nerds starting to get really into fashion.

Jolyne’s Modeling Adventure feat. Passione

Well, since it looks like Episode 13 is going to be delayed for the holidays until January 4th (it’s the fifth one down), we’re just going to have to hunker down and enjoy our JoJo’s some other way. A self described “quick and dirty” scan for the next JoJolion is up if you feel up to continuing to untangle that web of mysteries. If not, you can always make due with a little Jolyne Fashion Show brought to you by Gucci.

All of these little design images came out with the one-shot Jolyne Fly to Gucci. You can see a few scans here. I wonder if Hirohiko Araki considers these designs a break considering some of the really elaborate costumes he’s done in the past. He does these an amazing justice, but don’t think that just Jolyne gets to have fun being fancy.

Part of the one-shot includes Jolyne running into a few of the Passione boys during her trip. Gucci doesn’t just design for women, and if Araki’s writing about Italy anyway I guess. It’s nice to see Bruno and Abbachio. Polpo also makes an appearance up and walking around.

Joylne Kujo Goes to Gucci

Posted in JoJo's Year, Text Articles with tags , , , , , , , on 2012/12/21 by OnePixelJumpMan

Guess what comes out on Saturday? The next JoJo’s short story and the first one to feature a JoJo: Jolyne, Gucci de Tobu.

(Jolyne, Fly High with Gucci)

It’s going to be Araki’s second story published in SPUR, the Shuesha owned women’s fashion magazine, after Rohan Kishibe Goes to Gucci. Apparently the details about it came out in November, and all the stuff I can find about it says that it was supposed to come out in their February issue, but the SPUR Twitter has it.

That image link, and you’ll see it in the tweet, is of the packaged up issues of SPUR. The important part is that last line that goes “On Sale December 22nd,” so it looks like we get our Jolyne side story a few months early. It still says “February” if you look at the top, so maybe SPUR just decided to release the February issue in December?

As a bonus to the release, if you follow this tweet:

It’s talking about the recent Ultra Jump that has a new piece of JoJo news every time I think I’ve read the last thing. In that issue, they released some of the art. The person on the SPUR team who runs their Twitter put out this adorable picture recreating the one-shot cover with figures.

Is that tiny horse/dog/animal part of Stone Ocean and I’ve just forgotten?

I like seeing older characters in Araki’s newer art style. It fits Jolyne pretty well probably because she was drawn closer to Steel Ball Run than any of the others. So look forward to the one-shot. Hopefully someone will pick it up and translated it over for us on the English speaking side.
