Your Subs, I’ll Be Their Judge! Jotaro Kujo Special PV and All Stardust Crusaders PVs Subbed!

Posted in Anime Seasons, JoJo's Year, Spring 2014, Videos with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on 2014/03/22 by OnePixelJumpMan

I don’t need to say anything, right? It’s Jotaro, it’s totally sweet, he’s totally sweet. Watching Star Platinum punching the shit out of Hierophant Green’s face was great. And you even get to see it with subs. If you’d like to see it clean, you can though the main site.

But as an added benefit for those that would like subs, the channel that did these, Joestar Journal, has all the trailers subbed. Have at it.

“No, No. This is a Semi-Formal Event. You Didn’t Need to Wear Joseph.”

The jacket part of the Part 2 suit jackets are finally almost ready, and, despite looking like a wand, so is the Red Stone lapel pin. You remember the Part 2 suits, right? They were a series of suit pieces based on the core cast of Part 2, Joseph, Caeser, Lisa Lisa, and the Red Stone made and offered by the Haruyama company. The first release of them only contained the shirts, squares, ties, cuffslinks, and tie clips with promises of that lapel and suit jacket. Didn’t expect the tartan pattern on the suit jacket. I’d say it’s because the ED key on the outside might be a little ostentatious, but we’re talking about JoJo’s and clothing.

As opposed to the other suit items, there’s currently no online purchase for the suit jacket. There’s a list of stores, but I’m not sure how the distribution is going to work. The jacket hasn’t officially launched yet and won’t until sometime in mid March. That is now, but it’s not mid enough, I guess. It’s running for the heavy price of ¥59,900, but it is a quality suit jacket. On the other hand, the lapel pin is available online for ¥4,980.

It’s a little heavy, but can you really afford not to go to prom in the most stylish suit? That’s what I thought.

Fancy French Cheeses and PV! The Jean Pierre Polnareff Special PV!

Posted in Anime Seasons, JoJo's Year, Spring 2014, Video Games with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on 2014/03/14 by OnePixelJumpMan

The French! Ah, it sounds good. I mean, not good, but it sounds right. Or something. I’m not sure how to express that one, but I like it, Monsieur Joestar. And Dio’s butt.  And it still looks good. I mean the animation as well as Dio’s butt I guess. The music is a new interesting point. Suits Polnareff’s image more than the fat beats do, though, so I’m still not sure how the show’s sound direction and composition is going to go. I’m sure it’ll be トレビアン.

And that’s the end of our special character PVs as far as I’ve heard. There may be one left since there’s enough time for one between now and the 4th, but we’ll have to wait and see. Maybe a good super stand user special. Need to hear what Daniel and Terrence are going to sound like.

Mustache Considerations. Araki on Zeppeli from JoJonium 2 and JoJonium 7 Catch Copy Contest Open

Posted in JoJo's Year, Text Articles with tags , , , , , , , on 2014/03/01 by OnePixelJumpMan

The smallest detail on a character can be one of their most defining or damning traits. When designing characters, you have to give a lot of care to make sure there’s nothing small wrong. Zeppeli’s mustache is apparently one of those things. JoJonium 2’s interview with Araki has been translated, once again by zehimonashi Tumblr. It’s an interesting piece on character design. Directly quoted:

Will Anthonio Zeppeli
Mr. Zeppeli’s Mustache Was A Considerable Gamble

Data
Birthday: Around 1838
Height: Unknown
Weight: Unknown
Horoscope Sign: Unknown
Blood Type: Unknown
Nationality: Italian

Mr. Zeppeli’s* name comes from the rock band Led Zeppelin. To me, they’re the cream of the crop of musicians, so I felt I had to use them when I was naming him. It really is a shame, it’s kind of like cutting a joker right off the bat. So, I had to have that much resolve when I debuted Mr. Zeppeli as a character. Furthermore, the sound is important, of course JoJo, like Jonathan and Joestar, has a lot of J sounds. so I wanted to balance it out with the Z in Mr. Zeppeli even in English lettering. I similarly made sure the sounds weren’t too similar for Speedwagon.

Mr. Zeppeli: Jonathan’s master who teaches him the Ripple and guides him to destroying the Stone Mask. The way I see it, I dig teachers who at first blush seems like the ‘are you sure it’s going to be okay, he seems like he’s just messing around’ kind. Like how in Jackie Chan movies, where it’s like ‘this inebriate’s been drinking, but how is he so strong?’ Same for the teacher in The Karate Kid. With characters like this, it’s what’s on the inside that commands respect. And it’s through this gap you feel his appeal rather than through the superficial or just by appearances. I wanted him to have the image of looking weak but being actually strong, his outward appearance has the aura of a magician and a swindler’s mustache. This mustache is that of the artist Salvador Dali or Osomatsu-kun‘s Iyami, that type of lineage.

However, especially for a Shōnen magazine, a mustache was a component that required a lot of courage. First of all, it makes him seem older, and shady. I think it would be like this with any type of mustache. But in Mr. Zeppeli’s case, even though he’s a master, he isn’t an old man with a considerable age difference from Jonathan. Plus, he’s the lead supporting role. Perhaps it would make the readers turn away from him. So that’s why it took courage. He is a character that I have not really put out in any of my other works. but I made a decision to put out the “are you sure it’s going to be okay” type I mentioned before. Thinking back, it was a “gamble” or an “adventure” on my part. At the time, I thought, well, it’s JoJo so it should be fine. It’s called Bizarre Adventure after all. And finally for the record, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure (Jojo no kimyou na bouken) came out into the world before Bizarre Stories in this World (Yo ni mo kimyou na monogatari). I wanted to emphasize that.

*Araki only uses honorifics on Zeppeli in his signature on the original manuscript.

The Untold Story Behind JoJonium 02’s New Illustration

Q: That orb on his cane can’t possibly be…?
A: A steel ball from Steel Ball Run
You can’t have Zeppeli without a top hat. And when the diamond pattern is curved, it looks 3D and is in a nice form.

It seems like the most inane detail, in part because we’re all very used to Will having a mustache by now, but Araki’s right in that it sends a lot of potential messages that might not have worked for a shonen manga.

And while we’re here talking about JoJonium anyway, might as well mention that the next catch copy contest is up. You’ll be writing over this nice picture of Cars and Joseph. Same rules as always. 30 character phrase, 10 character pen name.

OH MY GOD! It’s the Joseph Joestar PV!

I know it’s a PV, so it follows that the clips are the good bits, but the animation is looking solid. Still stylish, still colorful, and very sharp.

I think what we’re supposed to take away from this PV set is how we’re going to feel about all the new VAs. Today’s chopping block attendee is Unshou Ishizuka as the new Old Joseph, and he’s pretty good. He yells good, he sounds effectively authoritative, and he’s even got the goofiness down if that last bit is any indication. I think Joseph’s in good hands.

See you in a week for Abdul.

Stardust Crusaders Anime Character Special PVs Start Friday!

Posted in Anime Seasons, JoJo's Year, Spring 2014, Text Articles with tags , , , , , , , , on 2014/02/19 by OnePixelJumpMan

New content means new previews for that content. The Official JoJo anine site has gotten it’s full appearance overhaul now that the anime is getting ready to start on April 4th. This includes a new set of character pages, which is where that picture of Joseph comes from, and the promise of new PVs. Once a week on Friday starting this Friday, the official site will be releasing a character specific PV to give a little detail on each of them. I think it’s just a good chance for everyone’s favorite character to look cool for a few seconds before everyone gets to look cool in the show.

The PVs will start with Joseph and Hermit Purple, then Abdul, Kakyoin, and finishing with Polnareff. Something fun to look forward to which you can follow here. I’ll also post them, of course.

Stardust Crusaders Anime Stand Designs Special!

The core cast of Part 3’s stands have been revealed. Although you probably already knew what they looked like, and they look about the same. Hierophant Green looks about dead on the same way he did in ASB. The only differences I can see are subtle color ones. Hermit Purple looks like it’s a little richer of a purple, and Magician’s Red looks closer to a peach color than I remember. That could be a scan quirk though. Magician’s Red does have a look on his face like he just remembered he left the stove on when Abdul called it out. I wonder why he needs one…

About 2 months left, everyone. It’s getting close.

Sunlight Bullseye Overdrive!

Of all the weird products there have been for JoJo especially since the anime, this has to be the one I understand the least. Underwear, I get. Food, I get. Punchable friend frog made perfect sense as a plush doll, but JoJo Anime brand dart fletching is something I probably would have never predicted.

The above is one of the packs, the variety pack. It comes with one Joseph, one Red Stone of Aja, and one Caesar.

There’s also the Joseph only pack

And the Caeser only pack

Each one comes as a set of 3. The variety pack will be ¥1,600, and the two character specific ones will be ¥750. If you feel like your darts game could use a little ripple boost, they’ll be available from Still Alive on February 24th.
