The JoJo’s Baby Name Book! JoJoveller’s English Name List

https://i0.wp.com/i.imgur.com/1ozbWUt.pngJoJoveller is more than just a big art collection. It’s almost like the JoJo Field guide to the new and unknown. That’s why there were the stand names for stand’s we’d never gotten before. With names of stands come names of people too, though, as there’s often debate over how to properly bring certain names into English, especially because of the referential nature of the series. Do we use romanized kana spellings, giving us things like Esidisi, or do we go full on with our references, with things like ACDC? I remember getting into that fight while the anime was going.

Well, worry only a little bit anymore because JoJoveller also comes with a guide for the English translations of people’s names. It’s been translated with care by Shizuka Joestar Tumblr, though with some caveats. This list is at times contradictory with source material and sometimes other parts of JoJoveller, Bruno’s name is given as “Bucciarati” but spelled “Buccellati” later on. So, while it is interesting, take them with the understanding of the potential errors.

I’m not going to quote the whole list because it’s tremendous. I’m just going to cherry pick the ones I think are interesting. You can see the full list here. Be wary of spoilers if you haven’t read all the Parts. You should probably only read the lists for the Parts you’ve finished.

Joseph Joestar
Esidisi
Kars
Wamuu
Straizo
Muhammad Avdol
N’Doul
Telence T. Darby

I think which ones I was going to pick were pretty obvious. Past Part 3, save the weirdness with Bruno’s name, most of them are what you’ve come to already know from the translation conventions. I picked the Pillar Men and Straizo because of the arguments that came out with the anime, and I picked Joseph because I remember it used to be that Joseph was spelled “Josef” in Part 2. There was a “changed for cultural meshing” argument for why the F became a PH, and that was the same justification for why Jolyne went from a “Kujo” to a “Cujoh.” At least for some time.

Avdol and Telence are the weirder ones because Engrish. Avdol and Telence are not names, of course. If you look those up, you’ll always get rerouted back to JoJo’s, but Abdul and Terence are names, so that’s kinda awkward. On the other hand, I always thought it was supposed to be N’Doul and was confused when I started hearing N’Dour, so I guess it balances. A bit?

Anyway, give it a look. It’s an interesting read.

Battle Tendency Character Designs

JoJo’s Episode 8 is out and subbed today. We’re rapidly approaching the end and the beginning of Part 2. Found these through the SA thread thanks to user Perigryn, these are the upcoming character designs we have to look forward to.

Stroheim’s hat be bigger on the inside considering his hair.

It could be because I thought the Part 1 designs were really flashy at first, but I feel like these are a lot lower key than those, and that’s odd considering everything Part 2 has to offer us.

I skulked around the internet looking for where these came from and mostly just found references on forums, so I’m not sure. I assume they came from the same magazine that gave us the actor listing. It’s looking good, and with how good this most recent episode of Part 1 has been, I say we’re going into Battle Tendency strong.

If you’d like to follow Battle Tendency straight from the horse’s mouth, you can find the official Warner Brothers site section here. They currently don’t have these images up like they did for the Part 1 characters. They’re probably waiting on better official copies before they put them up.

Your next words are, “A podcast on Battle Tendency?”

JoJo’s Bizarre Podcast Year continues with Part II: Battle Tendency. Special appearances by Guile, the start of the really crazy ass planning, ridiculous weaponry, and fighting vampires as a stepping stone on the way to thrashing living gods. It’s pretty good.
