Kill la Kill Behind the Scenes Tweet Collection and Pro Cosplay Bonus

Hey, there’s not a new episode of Kill la KillĀ today, so there’s no picture of the new episode. How will we fill the time? Well, the KlK creator Twitter is very open about behind the scenes pictures. They post storyboards, prelim sketches, drawing tables, bonus art, drawing models, junk food, a lemon someone wrote the show’s logo on, and others. It’s very cool to see the basic drawings that eventually progress up to the full show. There are the beautiful storyboard parts like the above and the simple circles before a big Mako speech.

You can see the current collection of those here.

And there’s always cosplay galleries to fall back on. This set is unique because, up until now, we were doing pure fan costumes. What you’d see at conventions, but we’re now at the point where professional cosplay with pro photographers is starting to pop up. They’re almost entirely Ryuko, though we’re seeing some Satsuki as we progress outside the pro costumes and back into the fan ones, but I don’t mind because I really like everyone’s different takes on the scissor sword. You’d think there’d be a lot of consistency, but there’s a lot of different handles and lengths and shapes and all that. Props are fun.

You can check those all out here.

Ryuko. The Chance of Avenging Your Father is Mathmatically Unfeasable.

The Kill la Kill twitter loosed this picture earlier today. As part of a promotion, Toranoana will be carrying this 1/1 replica of the half scissor sword in this case next to their register in their Akihabara B store. It looks well crafted, though it’s a bit fuzzy through the case. I also can’t tell the scale since I don’t have a point of reference like a Ryuko cosplayer, but it looks accurate in shape.

But that’s not the important part. According to the tweet, this is being offered as a lottery prize. The way it looks is that it’s based on distributor bonus. If you buy all the Kill la Kill DVDs/BDs from Toranoana, you’re entered into the drawing for this nice piece of memorabilia. The downside is that Toranoana doesn’t offer international shipping. Getting this little goody on this side of the ocean will require some creative thinking.

“Ryuko, Only the Scissor Blade Can Stand Up to Our Bill Paying Ability.”

When making goods for your show, it’s important to make them unique and interesting while pleasing the fanbase. JoJo’s and Titan did it by being weird as hell with things like the clothes hangers and punchable friend frog. And now Kill la Kill is doing it by giving people show based toys they can use in their everyday life. Movic is bringing you your own version of the half scissor blade to be used as a “paper knife.” I think that means it’s intended to be used as something like a letter opener, though that term makes me think of the knives you use to cut paper in art classes. It’s 15cm long and made out of zinc so it will actually have a weighted metal feel to it, and, as you can see, it’s very well designed to look really close to the sword as it appears in the show. I’m not sure what’s with the second picture where it looks shorter, though. Maybe they’ll make a special version that unfolds into a super knife that opens boxes after you’ve fully accepted that your shirt just wants you to love it.

Your chance to open up letters in such a way that they explode causing the letter to drift into your shirt where you can absorb its power is open for preorder now. It’s expected to launch December 5th.
