I Should Really Wear a Gas Mask to Fights. Fugo and Iggy Demo Matches

Posted in JoJo's Year, Videos with tags , , , , , , , on 2013/09/11 by OnePixelJumpMan

The DLC for Fugo and Iggy are out! Fugo for free and ¥300 for Iggy, we’ve got two new playable characters and a whole new campaign mode. For you consideration of the characters, VEpicAGE has uploaded a demo fight for each. Aesthetically, I like that Iggy’s noises are mixed between his voice and dog sounds. His GHA is also cool for how intimidatingly big the attack is. Gameplay wise, it’s a little annoying that the contact for his HHA isn’t just the front of the rolling sand since it means you can’t punish a whiff as easily, and it looks like the Shadow DIO sand mimic is invincible. You can hit Iggy behind it, but it’ll still smack you afterwards. Also, I think I was right about it being hard to not hit yourself with Purple Haze’s poison. Fugo also gets Resolve Mode at low health instead of Rumbling Mode which is interesting considering Fugo both in Part 5 and that novel about him knocking over the drug trade. [Edit: Speaking of which, holy crap, they gave Fugo the ability to call Purple Haze Distortion. Going to the novels. That’s intense.]

I’ll append any edits to the specifics after I’ve tried it out. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go get all the new costumes. [Edit 2: Son of a bitch, there aren’t any Bruno ones.]

[Edit 3: He’s now also added videos for the HHA and GHA for both, Gold Experience Punches, Joseph’s Counter Taunts, and Josuke’s Hair Insults. They aren’t subbed, but what you should carry away from them anyway is that Joseph can summon gum into existence, and Josuke can read the minds of dogs.]

Destiny, New Guys, and Voice Actors! ASB League Final Highlights

The eternal struggle of a man and his surrogate brother/new body’s great great grandson. ASB League’s final match comes down to one of the most iconic struggles in JoJo, and there’s lots of fists and a few knives. AI Dio really doesn’t know how to handle his time stop power. Jotaro starts off all right, but he goes for the heavy ORAORA for a while. It does him all right here and there, but Dio’s pretty good for getting inside the wall of fists, and that’s why he’s the King of JoJo. I’m still hoping for a crowning ceremony.

Just for fun, lets get a few hands on demos going. Iggy and Fugo were announced not even that long ago, so a PV and a demo were in order. This isn’t so much a match as a messing around with the two, but you get to see some of the characters’ moves. To compensate for Iggy’s height, it looks like he just has a hitbox bigger than his body. Fugo’s landing hits in the air above Iggy’s head, but that seems reasonable so you don’t have to crouch during the whole match against him. The Fool makes it a little more obvious, so it may be that the hitbox is based on Iggy with The Fool out since you’re likely to fight with it on anyway.

I finally manage to not guess traps on a character, and he uses them. Fugo gets the ability to put down clouds of his virus. Due to the low quality of the video and that it happens at the very end, I can’t really tell the kind of damage it does. It looks like it turns your health bar purple, and that happened to Fugo and Iggy. Not hurting yourself with that could be an issue.

Finally, let’s have a full on exhibition. Two matches for fun between voice actors, let’s say. These two matches are played by the character’s voice actors, Kazuyuki Okitsu (Johnathan) vs. Wataru Hotano (Josuke), and Hermes vs. Mitsuaki Madono (JoJolion Josuke.) Only Hermes is played by someone else being played by Kendo Kobayashi.

I love seeing these player matches. It’s almost like the game runs at a higher speed when there’s real people playing it. Johnathan vs. Josuke is especially fun. The combos the two pull of, the fluidity of how the combat moves. The combos the pull into their HHA are really satisfying. It’s cool.

Think I’m Cute? Wait Until I Summon Dio. All Star Battle PV 7!

That was fast. Announce the characters, immediately show them. I’m all for it. This is the PV all about DLC characters, the first four at least.

Fatty, Fugo, and Iggy are our big deals since we’ve seen Kira fight before. I like the way Fatty’s been implemented with using Harvest to move faster. Throwing big clouds of them was to be expected, though I didn’t think about them being projectiles. I was expecting things like the wave of harvest mites. I’m not sure if him lying down is normal movement or if he can be carried away after being knocked down. That could be a solid defense against being smacked around on standing up. Kappei Yamaguchi does the voice very well. He’s made the perfect voice for sounding like a snotty little wiener. The only thing missing is he never sniffled during any of his lines.

Time to put that speculation about Iggy and Fugo I did a few minutes ago to the test. Iggy first. He is voiced by Shigeru Chiba, the narrator for the original Fist of the North Star. I like the Iggy is being voice by a crotchety old man. That’s perfect for him. He does have a little personal combat, including farting on you, but he’s primarily stand focused. The Fool has a lot going on for form. I do love the little sand igloo he has for defense. The really interesting form, though, is probably when he can turn it into Shadow DIO from the Part 3 game. It only seems to be part of a combo, but that’s Shadow DIO down to having the blanked face. I wonder if he’ll be used at the vehicle for any other cameos like that. Maybe we’ll get an Alessi shadow to pop up and smack someone with a big pink axe.

Now Fugo. He’s voiced by [Edit: Hisafumi Oda and Purple Haze is voiced by] Hisao Egawa who has done a lot of things I’m aware of but almost nothing I’ve ever seen in Japanese. You may recognize him as Killer Bee from Naruto and Falco from Star Fox. Purple Haze works a little like I thought but not in a way that distinct from other stands. He enhances some of Fugo’s regular hit combos with follow ups and has some slower combos, but he’s also got an ORAORA. I can see the purple on him a lot easier now that we can get closer to hear his demonic roar at the start of his GHA. His HHA and GHA are all about getting consumed by the virus, one from the capsule Fugo bites through and the other where Purple Haze fucks you up and then you melt from a viral infection. Very nice.

One other note. That date at the very end, September 25th. That says something very important. “Until September 25th, all DLC characters are half price!” The cost of this game just went from +$18 to +$9. For now, at least, but it is a boon. Jump on it fast, guys. They’re listing the DLC characters in Parts with Fugo and Iggy being Part 2. It’s certainly not the end yet.

The Virus Will Destroy You from Withi- Hey, This is Just a Sand Statue! Fugo and Iggy Announced as DLC!

Iggy! That’s pretty cool. He was a key lacking part of the Part 3 cast from this game. And Fugo! He’s an interesting pick considering he was a character Araki thought was too powerful to keep in the story. Both are good for setting precedent as well since another Part 3 charactere means there’s still potential for Vanilla Ice, and another Part 5 character means there’s still a chance for Risotto, Trish, and/or Pesci.

Not a lot of information on them outside the images themselves. Purple Haze looks differently colored than how I’d thought, largely due to it not seeming to having any purple in it like some of its figures. The Fool looks exactly like I remember it down to that very pose. Other than that, there’s not a whole of information about the two on this page. Iggy will be straight-forward and probably work similar to how he did the Part 3 game. I’m not sure how they’re going to handle hitting him since he’s so small, but they may make The Fool also take damage for him and break apart when you hit it. Purple Haze may end up working similar to how we’ve seen KISS work with Hermes. I’m basing that on the Part 5 game where it was a slower stand type with chargeable punches. Purple Haze may follow along with Fugo to enhance his attacks and also have some slower moves where it acts on its own with its virus knuckle caps. The GHA will almost certainly be the opponent being devoured by the virus.

Let’s see. If DLC character prices are consistent, then this game now costs $16 more than it did when we started if you preordered and get Kira for free. If not, then it’s already up to $24 extra. How much farther can we take it? How much further is everyone willing to go for the DLC characters? CC2, I shake my fist impotently at you before falling down and shelling out. Especially if you announce FF.

Oh, and I’ve also heard a rumor they’re going to include Baoh. Having him fight Cars might be interesting.

These come from a magical little Tumblr called Lenoraoraora. I couldn’t be happier. I’ve always wanted there to be a Stardust Crusaders themed Major Arcana Tarot deck, but have never had the artistic ability to make it happen or known anyone who would. So when this lady comes along and not only posts those but says,

You’d be right in your assumption, yes! Every character from Stardust Crusaders whose stand is based on the tarot, I’ll be designing a card for them. I’m thinking of making each suit of the minor arcana themed around groups of characters (that may or may not be in SC), i.e. Joestars for Pentacles, villains for Swords. That kind of thing. 🙂

I’m pretty happy. Go. Reblog, repost, get the word out however, support this project. The day may come when we can look intensely at someone while coldly chuckling as they stare into a picture of an upside-down orangutang on an ocean liner.

(Thanks to JoJo’s Tumblr for being that chainlink for me.)
